Amethyst

At C W Sellors, we pride ourselves on our ability to utilise the beauty of a gemstone and set it within our exquisite collections of gold and silver jewellery. Within our workshops in Derbyshire, we have harnessed the mesmerising shades of purple, lilac and mauve that radiate from the Amethyst stone to make pieces of jewellery that not only look breathtaking but have a story behind them as well.

Amethyst is known as the purple variety of the quartz and is now one of the most valued members of the quartz family. Amethyst was highly esteemed throughout the ages for its exquisite beauty and legendary powers to protect and soothe the mind and emotions. To the ancients, the Amethyst was known as the “Gem of Fire”, a precious stone worth, at times in history, just as much as the diamond. It was also known by the Greeks and Romans as a sobriety stone that was used to cure addictions and destructive behaviours, and its name is even derived from the Greek word “amethystus” meaning not drunken or intoxicated. Now, the gem is traditionally known as the February birthstone and when the enchanting purple tones are captured within jewellery, they make exquisite works of art.

We have transformed this magical gemstone in our Tuberose and Cross Hearts collections but we can also combine them with other stones and metals since they are all handmade within our workshops.
